I will never forget the first time I heard this voice. On one of those August heat wave days Dave Laxx, outfitted in his daily UPS gear, staggered into my studio showing the wear and tear of a hard days work. I even suggested he come back at another, more comfortable time. He caught his breath for a minute or two and stepped up to the mic.
Then he sang!!!
With a voice that reminds one of an era when vocalists knew how and when to grab you, the Dave Laxx vibe is destined to fill the airwaves and CD players from coast-to-coast and abroad. Rooted in the churches, with a touch of street corner doo-wop, this vocal powerhouse began developing is skills in his hometown of Richmond, VA. His warm vocal styling offers a refreshing alternative to the current overload of raunchy soul music.
The whole Dave Laxx thing is a positively sexy, romantic musical experience. His vocal delivery weaves into a groove, taking whomever is listening on a smooth, surf-like ride over cool blue ocean waves.
Dave is currently working on tracks with writer/producer Al "Gmann" Green at Actiontrack's Love Monster Recording Studio in Petersburg, VA. The two have come up with a combination of musical and vocal vibes that capture the attention of all who are fortunate enough to get a sneak preview of the material while still under construction.
According to Dave, "Working with Al really isn't like working at all. We've got a real good, brotherly type connection and so far the material is coming off real strong. I'm also looking forward to the possibility of working with other writers and producers at some point in the future, and collaborating with some of the other talent from here in the VA area and elsewhere."
As mild-mannered as he is dynamic, Dave brings to the game a musical and visual package that stands out amongst a crowd of sound-alikes. While putting together material for his debut releases, he has also been performing throughout central Virginia, serving up his vocal flavor with some of the hottest jazz bands.
The track "I Miss You" was selected from Dave's collection of hits and featured in the motion picture "Nothin' 2 Lose", a direct to video release which stars Brian Hooks ("Phat Beach" and "3 Strikes"). The film, directed by Barry Bowles and produced by Martin Jones' Y2G Productions at Tim and Daphne Reid's New Millennium Studios, is scheduled for national release in the summer of 2000.
It is a rare
treasure to find a voice that commands so much attention from all who hear
it. The time is now to make way for the first vocal superstar of the new
millennium, the extraordinary sound of smooth dynamite...Mr. Dave Laxx.
